Creating Procedures and Comp Exam Items

Created by Mario Rodriguez, Modified on Sat, 28 Feb at 4:18 AM by Mario Rodriguez

Skills - usually called procedures by most programs - may be added at any time, and there is currently no limit to the number of skills/procedures a program can have.

To edit a procedure, go to the Skills page under the Comp Exam/Log Setup menu item; click the Edit icon at right of a procedure.

You can also switch which major study area the procedure belongs to from here.

To add a new procedure, from the Admin Panel select Comp Exam/Log Setup
-->Skills. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the  button at the bottom of the page displayed at right.

"Select Major Study" - These will have been preconfigured for your program when you began using the TRS.

"Skill Name" - Enter the name for the procedure.

"Times Before Pass" - Clinical supervisors cannot complete a competency exam on this new procedure unless the student has performed the procedure this many times.

"Level for Comp." -  When each Major Study in your area was set up, a series of "Participation LevelsAnchor" was established that correspond to the student's report on the daily logsheet of how much assistance was required during the procedure. Many programs have configured either 3 (1=Observed, 3=Performed with Assistance, 5=Performed with No Assistance) or 5 (1=Observed, 2=Much Assistance, 3=Assisted, 4=Minimal Assistance, 5=Unassisted) levels.  If you aren't sure how this Major Study was set up, you can check this by selecting the "Participation Level" menu item, then the Edit icon beside the desired Major Study.

The "Level for Comp" is therefore the level of performance which the student must report on the daily logsheet before a clinical supervisor can access the competency exam for this procedure. If you would like to see the text designations for the selected major study, go to "Participation Levels" and click the Edit Icon.

"Mandatory" - Select if a competency exam must be taken by the student for this procedure.

"Exam" - Select if a competency exam is or will be configured for this procedure.
