Competency Evaluations

Clinical instructors and faculty can file competency evaluations. Faculty may do so from within the Admin Panel and clinical instructors will find a menu item "Comp Evals". To file a competency evaluation on a student, all you have to do is to select your site (only if you are an instructor at more than one site), the student, the major study area of the evaluation, and the specific procedure. Then click the "Next" button. You should be aware of the minimum requirements of the educational program before a comp eval is allowed for a specific procedure. The administrator will have set a minimum number of procedures before a competency is allowed.

At bottom right is the beginning of a comp eval for a specific procedure. Different programs have different scoring systems. In many programs, you will be required to add a comment to explain any score below a level that has been established by the program administrators. For the program above, you would be asked to add a comment if you scored a student with a "U". For other programs with a rating scale of 1 to 10, it might be 7. You'll receive a message if something needs to be filled in before submission.

A default rating has already been assigned by the program. If you agree with it, there's no need to make any changes—this is intended to help you complete the evaluation more quickly.

At the bottom of the comp eval, you may see additional information. "Previous competency attempts for Chest-AP" show that for this student, none have been done; but you would see a list and their results if a comp eval has been attempted by this student for this procedure. Also please note that you must select whether a student is "Approved" or "Not Approved" for a comp eval.

This relates to the individual programs' guidelines for acceptance, and you may need to evaluate this before submitting the eval. For instance, some programs may consider a comp eval "Not Approved" if more than 3 items are marked "U" or the score is under a specific rating level. Make sure you understand what the "Approved" criterion are for your educational institution.

After submission, the report will now be available to you, the faculty and the student from inside the "Reports" area.

If you leave a comp exam without saving changes (you accidentally close the browser or another user logs into Trajecsys with the page open), a draft will automatically be saved.  When you return to the comp, you will have the opportunity to recover that draft by responding "Yes" to "You have unsaved data for this form.  Do you want to recover it?"
